Warren
Mahoney started his racing career at the age of 14
racing go-carts.
In 1987 he graduated to the Three-Quarter
Midget Racing Series in Canada and the United States
both indoors and out until 1999 when he began his
rookie season with the Southern Ontario Sprints.
Warren
competed in the full 1999 S.O.S. season as a Rookie
driver which fell short, however Warren impressed the
fans of sprint car racing with an impressive 5th
place finish in points. When Warren competed in his first race of the season and won,
many knew he was in top contention to finish in the
top 5.
In
the 2000 season Warren once again impressed many as he
set a new club record by winning three straight
features in a row.
The top three drivers each week were battling
it out for the Championship and right up to the very
last night, it was a nail biting season which saw
Warren finish 2nd place in points, with
just a few points separating each driver. Warren did
however take home the trophy for the Dash Points
championship.
After
coming up just short of the 2000 SOS title Warren was
able to capture the 2001 Championship. He picked up
three of his 7 career feature victories that season.
He stands second on the all-time feature win list. He
has thrilled fans on both sides of the border with
outstanding drives. Still talked about was his 2000
win at Ransomville when he slipped under big block
DIRT star Danny Johnson to win and then in 2001 when
he edged Rick Wilson at the line at Ohsweken.
The
2003 season was nothing short of excitement again as
Warren battled to the very end for the Championship as
it came down again to the last night.
Warren’s efforts fell short by 23 points as
he finished the season 2nd place overall.
Warren
had a quiet yet strong year in 2004. Although he
never reached victory lane he once again was
consistent and in the title chase right down to the
end of the season. He finished 3rd in the SOS
points standings behind Glenn Styres and champion Cody
Geldart.
In
2005 Warren will again be looking forward to running
up front and re-captuing the Southern Ontario Sprints
Championship.
