The final weekend of racing for 2008
came two weeks late due to mother nature. Ohsweken
Speedway hosted the 4th Annual Canadian Sprint Car
Nationals, an event that drew 61 of the best sprint cars
in the northeast.
Warren Mahoney and the #25 team entered
the weekend having wrapped up the 2008 SOS season with a
second place finish overall in the final driver
standings and one win on the the year.
On Friday night Warren kicked the
weekend off with an appearance in the Ohsweken Shootout.
The event placed the top drivers from each of the six
sanctioning bodies that comprised the weekends events.
Warren however would not fair well on the pill draw and
finished the all-star race in 11th. From there Warren
lined up in the 5th qualifying heat with hopes of
getting to the top five and gaining a spot in one of the
twin 15 features. He would fall just two positions short
and with no B-mains on the evening would not be in the
finals. He did however take part in the Dave McLeod Mr
Sprint Car Challenge where he took on Dain Naida
head-to-head in round one. Naida went on to win the
round and eventually lost out in the finals to Steve
Poirier.
On Saturday all cars went straight into
time trials. Warren put down a lap of 14.647, good
enough for 43rd of 61 cars. That lap gave the #25 team
an uphill battle the rest of the night but they still
came out with a solid finish. In the qualifying heat
they finished 9th, in B-Main 5th and then 3rd in the
last chance "Little Feature".
Although the Canadian Sprint Car
Nationals didn't produce the results Warren and the #25
team would have liked they came away with a very
successful 2008 season. The year marked the 10th year
straight that Warren has finished in the top five in SOS
points, with five of those finishes being 2nd place and
two being series titles. Warren also broke a five year
winless drought with a win at South Buxton on August
2nd.
Mahoney Racing would like to thank all their supporters
in 2008 especially the sponsors that make it all
possible. Clintar Groundskeeping Services, Fairway
