The Southern Ontario
Sprints kicked off their 13th season at the Brighton Speedway on Saturday
May 10th. It also marked the first race of the year for Warren Mahoney and
the #25 race team.
The two time series
champion unloaded at Brighton with his sites on his record breaking third
SOS title. The night however would prove to be a rough one for the 'Wiley
One'. Mechanical problems plagued the #25 thoughout the evening.
In the eight lap qualifier
Warren would start on the outside of the front row. A first corner crash
featuring a vicious crash by April Wilson brought out the red flag early.
When racing resumes Warren began to fade but was able to finish the
qualifier in fourth. In the 20 lap main event the #25 started third but
again problems under the hood kept the car from running at full speed. As
a result Warren would be the first to head to the pit area early in the
feature and would finish 15th.
Warren Mahoney and the rest of the Southern Ontario Sprints will be back
on the road on Saturday May 31st for the first ever visit to the newly
refigured Brockville Ontario Speedway.
