The Southern Ontario
Sprints had a double header planned for the Canada Day Weekend but Mother
Nature had other plans. Saturdays event at South Buxton Raceway was washed
out completely.
The stars and cars of the SOS turned their attention to Humberstone
Speedway for their first race at the Port Colborne facility in two
seasons. For Warren Mahoney it would be another solid night with a
significant gain in the overall point standings.
In the 8 lap qualifier Warren had an exciting battle with outside
polesitter and father Dick Mahoney. The two raced closely at the front
with Warren coming out on top and taking the heat win.
In the 20 lap A-Main Warren would start 5th. The action was furious among
the top ten and the 'Wiley One' was right in the thick of it. In the
closing laps the #25 began to fade but Mahoney was able to hold on for an
8th place finish. The top ten result was enough to vault Warren into a tie
for third place with Adam West in the overall SOS standings. The two sit
just 22 points back of race winner and point leader Glenn Styres.
Warren Mahoney and the rest of the Southern Ontario Sprints will be back
on the road on Saturday July 12th at the Brighton Speedway. For more
