The fourth
time was the charm for sprint car racing at South Buxton
Raceway in 2008. After the three previously scheduled
dates were cancelled by rain the Southern Ontario
Sprints finally were able to perform before what was an
eager and excited crowd.
It would
be a night to remember for Warren Mahoney and the #25
team. In the 8 lap qualifier Warren started 7th and
climbed as high as 3rd by the time the checkers flew.
The solid run from the back was just a preview of what
was yet to come on the evening.
In the 20
lap main event the 'Wiley One' would again have to start
from the 7th position. The #25 was hooked up and it was
apparent early as Mahoney made short order of the cars
in front of him. A lap seven restart saw Warren and
father Dick battling for the win. The two put on a great
race until Warren finally got by and took command of the
race. Glenn Styres would eventually move up to second
and was closing on the #25 briefly but in the final laps
Mahoney was holding his own and drove to victory lane.
The win was Warren's first since August 16th, 2003 when
he won at the Merrittville Speedway. With Styres
finishing second Mahoney was only able to gain a few
points in the overall standings and now sits just 8
markers back with 4 races to go.
Warren Mahoney and the rest of the Southern Ontario
Sprints will be back on the road on Saturday August 9th at the
Brighton Speedway where the tour will run their July
12th rained out feature and then the complete regular
scheduled event. For more information visit www.southernontariosprints.com. |
