| The
Southern Ontario Sprints wrapped up their 2006 season
with the SOS Championship Invitational at the Ohsweken
Speedway on Friday September 8th. Three drivers had a
chance at winning the title and it was Warren Mahoney
who held the advantage entering the night.
With 29 cars on hand
it was going to be a difficult task to simply qualify
for the A-Main. Warren went out in his 8 lap heat
however and was determined to avoid the B-Main. The
#25 was fast and finished third in the qualifying
heat.
When the cars lined
up for their 25 lap A-Main Warren held the advantage
in the standings. He knew a 9th place finish or better
would clinch the title regardless of where Bob
Crawford and Glenn Styres finished. By keeping
Crawford in sight for all 25 laps Warren held on for a
ninth place finish and clinched the title. The finish
capped off a consistent year for Mahoney. He proved
that consistency was the most critical part in winning
a championship as he finished every race in 2006
inside the top ten.
The 2006 SOS
Championship was Warren's second as he won the title
in 2001 over Keith Dempster by just 8 points.
This year it was an 18 point win over Bob Crawford.
Warren will officially be crowned the 2006 Champion at
the SOS Banquet on Saturday November 11th, 2006. |
